What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union.
One of the purposes of GDPR is to ensure that all countries within the EU have the same rules when it comes to protecting your data footprint online.
One example of GDPR protections is that each country has defined the appropriate age for a person to access social media. Depending on European country, that age is 13-16. Until you come of age and can give your consent to the use of your data, you will need your parents’ permission to use social media.
GDPR went into effect in the EU on May 25, 2018.
What is COPPA?
COPPA imposes certain requirements on operators of websites or online services directed to children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age.
